Clemson QB Kyle Parker throw a 19 yard TD pass to TE Drew Traylor to start out the first quarter that proved to be enough. As the impressive Clemson Defense theld a good TCU offense to 165 yards.

Week2(y1) scores Fsu-student-tix-579wide

Infront of a packed home crowd, FSU outlast OU 31-30 in one of the games of the year!!

With all the turmoil surrounding the Florida State Seminoles this week with the departure of their head coach, you could be forgiven if you forgot that there was a game to be played this week as the Seminoles hosted the Sooners of Oklahoma. Coming into this game Coach Zikry really needed his team to get off to a fast start, but even he could not have imagined what would unfold tonight!!

The Seminoles won the toss and elected to kick the ball off to the Sooners. As the defense got ready to get on the field the OU return man tried to find a hole, but was hit hard, fumbling the ball which was picked up by CB Justin Bright who took it in from 19 yards out for the score and just like that, with 4 seconds off the clock, FSU had a 7-0 lead (highlight available on hub). Both teams would exchange 3 and outs and on the Sooners' next possession, QB Drew Allen ran the option play on 2nd and 10, and instead of keeping the ball and getting tackled, Allen decided to pitch the ball to his RB, which was sniffed out by the FSU defense as CB Greg Reid got between the ball and the man and took it back the other way for a 16 yard return to put the Seminoles up 14-0 (highlight available on hub). The Sooners would respond on their next drive, as Drew Allen found WR Dejuan Miller for an 11 yard TD with 2:23 left in the 1st quarter to make the score 14-7 FSU. That would be all the scoring in the 1st.

The 2nd quarter started off with the Seminoles capping off their drive with a 19 yard pass from Ponder to HB Jermaine Thomas. On the play, Ponder read a heavy blitz and audibled out into a play where his tailback would act as if he was going towards the flat, before cutting upfield. The play worked perfectly as Thomas was left 1-on-1 with a linebacker and Ponder released the ball just as he was about to get leveled by the defense, and right into the hands of Thomas to give FSU a 21-7 lead with 6:04 left in the half. The remainder of the half was controlled by OU, who were able to rattle off 10 straight points thanks to a 1 yard run by DeMarco Murray and a 50 yard FG by Patrick OHara to give FSU a 21-17 lead at the break.

The 3rd quarter was dominated by OU as their defense came out fired up and really stopped FSU cold in their tracks. With 4:39 left in the 3rd DeMarco Murray took a hand off, and was met by a gang of tacklers after a 5 yard gain, but Murray kept his feet moving and he was able to break through, and 80 yards later he was in the endzone celebrating OU's first lead of the game. Another OHara FG was added near the end of the quarter to give the Sooners a 27-21 lead heading into the 4th.

With about 6 minutes left in the game, Ponder was intercepted, giving OU great field position. The FSU defense knew that they had to make a stand right here if they were to have any chance of winning this game. With 4:28 left in the game OHara was successful on his 3rd FG of the day and stretched the OU lead to 9, 30-21. Coming out onto the field Ponder knew they had to score quickly, and that was the plan as he told Reed to go deep. Given enough time by his offensive line Ponder stepped back and heaved one deep for Reed, who had a step on the CB. The ball found him in stride and he was able to do the rest, racing past the CB and making a safety miss as this 81 yard connection put FSU right back into the game, down 2, 30-28, with 4:15 left. After the FSU defense forced OU to punt, Ponder came onto the field knowing that a FG would give his team the lead, so he led his team to within FG range, thanks in large part to the running of HB Jermaine Thomas, who really showed up in this drive. With 1:42 left in the game, Kicker Dustin Hopkins was able to make a 36 yard FG to give FSU back the lead at 31-30. OU were unable to get within FG range, and with 5 seconds left in the game were unsuccessful on a 4th down hail mary attempt, giving FSU the victory and sending the home fans into delirium.

Utah wins game, loses Wynn for rest of season...
Week2(y1) scores ScreenHunter_01Sep191013
Week2(y1) scores Ellaute

Well, it sure hasn't been a solid start for the Utes this year. Just a week after losing a nail-bitter at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, Utah had an idea in their head that they were going to come out and blast through divisional-opponent UNLV and get back on the right track. Well, that didn't happen, but the Utes will be limping into week 3 1-0 in the Mountain West Conference.

The game started off with some excitement as the UNLV Rebels faked a punt, direct snapped it to their fullback and got a first down on 4th and short and continued to drive down the field until ultimately crossing the goaline on a 6-yard run and catch to the fullback. The Utes would attempt to respond with QB Jordan Wynn completing every pass on the drive but kicker Nick Marsh missed a 42-yard field goal.
Week2(y1) scores ScreenHunter_02Sep191015

Second quarter started to turn more towards the hometeam Utes favor as they would force a 3-and-out and drive down the field and score on an electrifying 31-yard touchdown pass to Shaky Smithson. After a forced fumble by CB Brandon Burton the Utes would capitalize again with a 3-yard touchdown run up the gut by star running back Eddie Wide. But the Rebels would rally on their next drive, as QB Omar Clayton would both use his arm and legs to get first down after first down that would eventually end with a touchdown pass to his tight end Kyle Watkins. Jordan Wynn would complete a long pass down the field to Jereme Brooks to set up a go-ahead field goal before half, but overall terrible defensive performance by Utah in the first half of this one.
Week2(y1) scores ScreenHunter_05Sep191021

The second half was more defensive as both teams held their counterparts to 0 points in the third. With a 3-point lead and only minutes left in the 4th Utah Coach MG decided to take a gamble and do a playaction on 3rd and short to try and catch the UNLV defense sleeping. Well what ensued was what will probably go down as the worst play of the season for Utah this year. Sophomore QB Jordan Wynn was hit from behind as he let go of the pass, breaking his shoulder. Oh, and the pass was picked off and returned for a touchdown by UNLVs linebacker. Wynn was on the ground writhing in pain for minutes after the play and eventually got off the field. Wynn will be out the rest of the season and will be replaced by senior QB Terrance Cain. Cain ended up being the hero in this one, driving his team down the field with some well-read option plays and eventually hitting Jereme Brooks wide open in the middle of the field for the 24-yard game-winning touchdown with just minutes left on the clock.
Week2(y1) scores ScreenHunter_06Sep191021

The big story here, however, is the injury of star QB Jordan Wynn. Here is what Coach MG had to say after the content...

"It is a huge loss for us. It hurts. We will have to come out next week and play with some confidence that we don't have right now. Even with Jordan in the game we are playing like we expect to lose. It is very hard to watch and I won't stand for it any longer. We are representing the God-dayum University of Utah. Time to step it up, I talked to Terrance and he told me he is more than ready to lead this team to the Mountain West title. I believe him and hopefully the team does too."

Tech jumps to 2-0
Bulls are no match for Virginia Tech.

Week2(y1) scores LegendsY1Week2Score

Virginia Tech jumps on the Buffalo Bulls early. David Wilson would bring the opening kick off for a touchdown. The Bulls would answer back with their own score to tie it at 7. After that it was all Tech. Wilson would almost take it to the house again but gave us great field position. Wilson had 166 kick return yards. That seemed to set the tone for the day as the Hokies were just too much. Ryan Williams had his second consecutive 100 yard rushing performance as this defense was no match. The only thing that worries the head coach and his staff is the low amount of passing we've had to do. When it comes time and somebody shuts the run game down, will Tyrod be able to answer?

HURRICANES BLOW MAJOR 4TH QUARTER LEAD, BEARCATS WIN IN DRAMATIC FASHION

Week2(y1) scores ScreenHunter_02Sep192108

Week2(y1) scores ScreenHunter_01Sep192107

The Miami Hurricanes dropped a real close one in Cincinnati on Saturday, allowing a big 4th quarter comeback due in part to a passing game which faced no pressure. The Hurricanes lost star DE Allen Bailey at the end of the 1st half when they were leading 20-0 going into the locker rooms. They still felt confident they could finish the game out. Then the unthinkable happened. In the 4th quarter the Bearcats put up 20 points through a almost unstoppable pass game. The Hurricanes failed to run out the clock when they had the chance, as the run game was shut down all day. Graig Cooper disappointed once again as Shannon gave him a second chance and he fell well short of expectations. He rushed for a measly 8 yards on 16 carries. The comes in at an impressive 1/2 yard per carry. Miami fans are rioting for the benching of Cooper. I think its a safe assumption they will get their wish in this next coming week as Coach Shannon has no other viable option. Damien Berry looks to take over the starting gig in week 4. Miami appears to be in for a lengthy drop in the rankings from their impressive #13. It is well deserved for this underachieving bunch. Will they get their sh*t together and play like a contender, or is the season all but over with the loss of Benjamin, Bailey, and their continued sloppy play? They will have to win out impressively to have any kind of legitimate hope at a national title this season.

The 1-1 Hurricanes will be granted a bye week to lick their wounds before they face the tough Pitt Panthers in Sun Life Stadium

COUGARS RUN RIGHT PAST FALCONS

Week2(y1) scores 661A0001_15_GR_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_ctg
All MWC CB Anthony Wright is burnt on a 56 yard TD by Nelson and the Cougs.

AIR FORCE: 14
BYU: 28

The Air Force Falcons played terrible on both sides of the ball even though they mustered 14 points across the board. BYU was just to consistent and powerful on defense, and very potent on offense scoring on three huge plays that would seal the deal early.

The Falcons offense was led by QB Tim Jefferson who had to rely on his arm due to the potent BYU front 4. He threw for 213 yards with 1 TD but also threw 2 fatal int's. The Air Force run game was left questioning the system as Asher Clark carried the ball 10 times for 12 yards and Jared Tew carried the ball 4 times for 15 yards. TE chaz Demerath was left alone most of the day in the BYU zone defense, he totalled 6 catches for 105 yards with a TD.

The Air force defense is still waiting for a star to emerge but in the meantime Nickel CB PJ Adeji Paul had 6 tackles and leads the team with 14.

The Force (0-2,0-1) doesn't have an easy schedule ahead of them as they will travel to Oklahoma to take on the sooners next week.
